Exempel
I följande exempel skapas en serie programdomäner med namnet AD0 via AD3, med ett Worker objekt i varje programdomän. Varje Worker objekt har en referens till Worker objektet i nästa programdomän, förutom Worker i den sista programdomänen. Händelsen FirstChanceException hanteras i alla programdomäner utom AD1.

När programdomänerna har skapats anropar standardprogramdomänen TestException metoden för den första programdomänen. Varje Worker objekt anropar TestException metoden för nästa programdomän tills det sista Worker genererar ett undantag som antingen hanteras eller hanteras utan hand. Den aktuella tråden passerar därför genom alla programdomäner och TestException läggs till i stacken i varje programdomän.
När det sista Worker objektet hanterar undantaget FirstChanceException utlöses händelsen endast i den senaste programdomänen. De andra programdomänerna får aldrig en chans att hantera undantaget, så händelsen aktiveras inte.
När det sista Worker objektet inte hanterar undantaget FirstChanceException genereras händelsen i varje programdomän som har en händelsehanterare. När varje händelsehanterare har slutförts fortsätter stacken att varva ned tills undantaget fångas av standardprogramdomänen.

Den här händelsen är bara ett meddelande. Hanteringen av den här händelsen hanterar inte undantaget eller påverkar efterföljande undantagshantering på något sätt. När händelsen har skapats och händelsehanterare har anropats börjar CLR (Common Language Runtime) söka efter en hanterare efter undantaget. FirstChanceException ger programdomänen en första chans att undersöka alla hanterade undantag.
Händelsen kan hanteras per programdomän. Om en tråd passerar genom flera programdomäner när ett anrop körs genereras händelsen i varje programdomän som har registrerat en händelsehanterare innan CLR börjar söka efter en matchande undantagshanterare i programdomänen. När händelsen har hanterats görs en sökning efter en matchande undantagshanterare i programdomänen. Om ingen hittas genereras händelsen i nästa programdomän.
Du måste hantera alla undantag som inträffar i händelsehanteraren för FirstChanceException händelsen. Annars FirstChanceException höjs rekursivt. Detta kan resultera i ett stackspill och att programmet avslutas. Vi rekommenderar att du implementerar händelsehanterare för den här händelsen som begränsade körningsregioner (CER) för att förhindra att infrastrukturrelaterade undantag, till exempel out-of-memory eller stack overflow, påverkar den virtuella datorn medan undantagsmeddelandet bearbetas.
Den här händelsen utlöses inte för undantag som indikerar att processtillståndet är skadat, till exempel åtkomstöverträdelser, såvida inte händelsehanteraren är säkerhetskritisk och har HandleProcessCorruptedStateExceptionsAttribute attributet .
