Configure browsing with Copilot

When enabled, Copilot can browse websites on a user’s behalf, following their instructions to complete multi-step workflows and reduce repetitive tasks.

Browsing with Copilot has multiple guardrails built-in to ensure user safety and data security. Copilot can only browse on domains that you authorize through policy, and it respects existing DLP and policy configurations. Copilot requests user input for steps requiring authentication, and final saving and submitting actions.

Prerequisites

NOTE: This feature is currently in preview. To participate, submit a response to this form. Note that only tenants outside of the European Economic Area may participate at this time.

Browsing with Copilot is only available to users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Before setting up the configuration policy, ensure you have a Microsoft Entra group set up in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center that includes the target users. Instructions for creating a group can be found here: Create, edit, or delete a security group in the Microsoft 365 admin center - Microsoft Learn. You can enable Copilot features for one or more groups.

Configuration steps

  1. From the Edge management service homepage, click the Copilot tab.

  2. In the Browse with Copilot setting row, click Configure.

  3. To enable the default allow list, check the Allow Copilot to browse commonly used sites for work toggle. See what sites are included in that list below.

  4. To add a specific site to the allow list, select the Allowed sites tab. Type the URL into the text box under Add a site or domain and then click Add. To remove a site from the allow list, click the trash can icon next to its entry.

    Note

If you don't add any sites to the allow list, the browsing with Copilot feature won't be available.

  5. To add a specific site to the block list, select the Blocked sites tab and repeat the same process as for an allowed site. Blocked sites take precedence over allowed sites, and more specific subdomains take precedence over less specific subdomains.

  6. Click Done.

  7. If you’re ready to save the configuration, click Assign configuration in the banner that appears at the top of the page.

Commonly used sites list

We have curated a list of domains commonly used in work scenarios that you can easily enable when configuring browsing with Copilot. You can create exceptions to this list as needed using the block list, which will always take precedence over the allow list. Users are able to see what sites Copilot has access to in Settings.

FAQ and troubleshooting

Why can’t I see the browsing with Copilot option, even after enabling the policy?

Ensure that all of the following policies are configured:

  • AllowBrowsingWithCopilot must be enabled
  • BrowsingWithCopilotAllowList must have values
  • Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled must be enabled

Does Copilot always try to do browsing tasks, or can it still respond via chat?

Copilot decides how to respond to user prompts based on whether it determines the user is looking for a chat response or for it to take action. Using clear actions in a prompt, such as “open,” “post,” or “complete,” helps Copilot recognize those requests.
