Hey,

Got a weird one on New Outlook.

Every now and then when I open or draft an email, the Send / Reply buttons just… disappear. Toolbar looks kinda off, like it didn’t load properly. No error, mail still opens fine, just can’t do anything from there.

Doesn’t happen all the time, just randomly pops up.

Have you run into this before?

    Dear @Kaito Kid,

I understand that you are experiencing an intermittent issue where the Send and Reply buttons disappear in the New Outlook interface. This is typically related to a synchronization lag or a corrupted local web cache within the application.

There's a documented instance in "classic" Outlook that's quite similar: if you open a delayed message in Exchange 2013 mailbox (Online mode), the Send button disappears until you close and reopen the message (see KB 3009042). If you're using the delayed send feature, try this quickly and see if closing/reopening the draft makes the buttons reappear. Please refer to this document: The Send button is missing from a delayed delivery message in Outlook

But your case shows an error in New Outlook. Please help me narrow down the search for the cause. Please provide the following information:

    1. Which exact build of New Outlook are you on? (Help > About Outlook)
    2. What kind of account is this? Exchange Online, on-premises Exchange 2013/2016/2019, or something else?
    3. Is your profile set to Online mode or Cached Exchange mode?
    4. Does it only happen on delayed‐delivery drafts, or on every compose/reply window?
    5. Do you have any add-ins enabled that might be interfering with the ribbon?
    6. If you toggle “Use classic Outlook” off/on (or restart New Outlook), does it make any difference?
    7. Can you reproduce it consistently (e.g. always after switching windows or sending a previous message)?

In the meantime, please try the following official troubleshooting steps which usually resolve issues with basic issues:

    1. Reset the App: Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Outlook (New). Click the three dots, select Advanced options, and then click Reset.

    User's image

    1. Check View Settings (switch to classic Outlook to try this step): Sometimes the "Simplified Ribbon" vs. "Classic Ribbon" can cause UI glitches. Try toggling between them by clicking the downward arrow on the right side of the toolbar.
    2. Update Outlook: Ensure you are on the latest build. Go to Settings > General > About Outlook to check for updates. User's image

If the buttons disappear again, try pressing Ctrl + Enter or Alt + S as a shortcut to send the mail; if the shortcut works, it confirms the issue is purely a visual rendering glitch.

hope this clarifies the situation. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

This behavior is not documented in the provided references for new Outlook for Windows. However, similar Outlook issues where Send/Reply/Forward controls are missing or unusable are typically tied to either:

    1. The account/profile not being correctly configured.
    2. A client-side bug that is fixed by updating or resetting the Outlook local state.

Based on the available context, the most relevant, actionable steps are:

    1. Confirm the mail account is fully configured
      • In classic Outlook, missing Send is directly tied to account configuration. For new Outlook, verify the account is correctly set up and authenticated.
      • If the issue started after a change in account setup, re-run the account configuration and ensure the mailbox connects successfully.
    2. Reset new Outlook’s local state
      • A Microsoft Q&A resolution for new Outlook failing to start shows that clearing the local state fixes UI/startup issues:
        • Close Outlook.
        • Run: olk.exe --clearLocalState.
        • Start new Outlook again and re‑authenticate when prompted.
      • This forces Outlook to rebuild its local configuration/cache and can resolve intermittent UI glitches such as missing buttons.
    3. If the problem persists, fully reset the new Outlook profile
      • Close all Microsoft apps.
      • Delete the local new Outlook data folders, as recommended for new Outlook launch issues:
        • C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Olk
        • C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneAuth
      • Restart Windows and open new Outlook so it recreates these folders and re-downloads configuration.
    4. If the issue continues after the above
      • Because this resembles a client bug rather than a configuration error, open a support ticket via the Microsoft 365 admin center so engineering can review logs for the tenant and client build.
