To get the Canon printer‑scanner combo detected again in Windows, follow these steps in order.
- Verify Windows still sees the device
- Make sure the printer‑scanner is powered on and connected (USB cable firmly plugged in, or on the same Wi‑Fi/network SSID as the PC).
- On the Windows device, select Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners (or Devices → Printers & scanners on some versions), or use this shortcut from the context: Open Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & scanners.
- In Printers & scanners, check whether the Canon device is listed.
- If it is listed, select it and look for Scanner settings or a Scanner: entry under Manage. That confirms Windows still recognizes the scanner part of the combo.
- If it is not listed, continue with step 2.
- Re‑add the printer‑scanner
- In Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, select Add device next to Add printer or scanner.
- Wait while Windows searches the network/USB for devices. This can take a few minutes.
- When the Canon device appears in the list, select Add device next to it.
- After installation completes, confirm it now appears in Printers & scanners.
- If the device does not appear in the search results, select The printer that I want isn’t listed or Add a new device manually, then follow the wizard to add it manually (for example by IP address for a network device).
- Confirm the scanner is installed (for all‑in‑one devices)
- In Printers & scanners, select the Canon printer entry.
- On some Windows versions, select Manage.
- In the device window, look for a drop‑down or options list that includes an item prefixed with Scanner: or Scanner settings. If present, Windows sees the scanner.
- If applications still cannot find the scanner
If the device shows correctly in Printers & scanners but scanning apps cannot see it, restart the Windows imaging service and/or the PC:
- Restart the PC with the scanner powered on and connected.
- If the issue started after switching from one scanner to another (for example, from a network/WSD scanner to USB), uninstall the scanner in Device Manager, reconnect it, and let Windows reinstall it. This works around known issues where applications fail to see a newly connected scanner.
- Scan the tax documents
Once the scanner is visible to Windows:
- Open the Windows Scan app.
- Choose the Canon scanner, select the file type and save location (or use the default Pictures/Scans folder).
- Select Scan.
- After scanning, use View to open the file in Photos, or find it later in File Explorer under the chosen folder (by default, Pictures → Scans in the user profile).
If the Canon device still does not appear anywhere in Printers & scanners after these steps, install or update the Canon driver/software from the manufacturer’s site, then repeat steps 1–3.
