Hello,
When Windows 11 Pro fails to activate on a new Lenovo laptop, the most common cause is a mismatch between the edition installed and the license type. Lenovo laptops typically ship with an OEM license embedded in the BIOS/UEFI firmware. If the machine was preloaded with Windows 11 Home, the embedded key is for Home, and the system will not accept or automatically activate a Pro license until you explicitly change the edition.
To resolve this, go to Settings > System > Activation, select Change product key, and enter your valid Windows 11 Pro key. If the system still refuses to activate, first use the generic Pro upgrade key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T to force the edition switch from Home to Pro. After the edition upgrade completes and the system restarts, return to the Activation page and enter your purchased Pro product key. This ensures the OS edition matches the license.
If activation continues to fail, check the error code displayed. For example, 0xC004C003 indicates the key is blocked, while 0xC004F050 means the key doesn’t match the installed edition. In such cases, confirm that your Pro key is a retail or volume license key, not an OEM key tied to another device. If the key is valid but still rejected, you can run slmgr.vbs /ipk <your-pro-key> followed by slmgr.vbs /ato from an elevated Command Prompt to force activation.
Finally, ensure the laptop has internet connectivity and that the system date/time are correct, as activation requires communication with Microsoft’s servers. If none of these steps succeed, you will need to contact Microsoft Support with the key details to verify its status.
I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!
