HI we have an issue with a B2C wth second factor authentication telephone numbers in Guana not being accepted can you verify Microstofts stance on this?

Ashley Milne hi and thx for join us at q&a,

yeah this is not a bug, its regional SMS limitation. Entra ID B2C uses Microsoft SMS providers behind the scenes and not all countries are fully supported for MFA SMS. Ghana is one of those “partial / unreliable” regions so u get

messages not delivered
numbers rejected
inconsistent behavior

its not something u can fix in config tbh. if u are interested it happens coz

telecom restrictions
carrier filtering
Microsoft providers not having stable routes there

I reccomend use something else for MFA, like

authenticator app
email OTP
or custom SMS via external provider (Twilio etc via custom policies)

if u stay on built-in SMS u will keep getting random failures in those regions
