Our outlook stopped working for all employees today. I suspect it's because our payment is late due to a change in credit cards. How can I pay and get us back up asap?

    Dear Laurelwood Church,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your issue.

From what you described, your Microsoft 365 subscription appears to be in a suspended/disabled state, which is commonly caused by a failed recurring billing attempt (for example, an expired or declined credit card). When this happens, services such as email may stop working for all users.

As a best next step, please have your Global Administrator (or billing administrator) review and complete the following actions:

    1/ Update your payment method

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center Go to Billing > Payment methods

Add a new valid payment method
Replace the old/failed payment method with the new one

    2/ Reactivate the subscription

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center

Navigate to Billing > Your products, find your Microsoft 365 subscription, and if its status shows Suspended or Disabled, select Reactivate.

In many cases, completing the payment will automatically trigger reactivation.

If the subscription cannot be reactivated (for example, if the Reactivate option is not available), I would recommend contacting Microsoft Billing Support team directly. Here’s how you can raise a support request ticket to the billing team:

Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, then click Help & Support located in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
    User's image

In the message box, type billing, then click the Send button
    User's image

    Then click Contact Support
    User's image

    Select your preferred contact method.

Then, complete the required details and click "Contact Me" to submit your request.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum, so I do not have access to your billing details or subscription status. However, feel free to share any updates or screenshots, and I’ll be happy to continue assisting you.

For a business Microsoft 365 subscription where Outlook has stopped working due to a likely late payment, use the Microsoft 365 admin center to clear any outstanding balance and update payment so services can be restored.

Follow these steps as a billing/admin user:

    1. Check for an outstanding balance
      1. Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      2. If using Simplified view: select Subscriptions, then View invoices.
      3. If using Dashboard view: go to Billing > Bills & payments.
      4. Select the most recent invoice and check for any warning that the payment method was declined or that there is an outstanding balance.
    2. Pay the outstanding balance immediately Depending on the billing account type:
      • MCA billing account: Use the Pay now button on the invoice summary in the Microsoft 365 admin center to make a one-time payment.
      • MOSA billing account where the declined payment method was added by the same admin:
        1. In the invoice details, select Pay your balance.
        2. In the Pay your balance pane, select Next.
        3. Choose whether to retry the same payment method, use another existing payment method, or add a new payment method.
        4. Follow the prompts, then select Review and pay balance.
        5. After updating the payment method, select Save.
Important: If the declined payment method was added by someone else, it must be replaced with a payment method that was previously added by the current admin or with a new one.
    3. Update the default payment method (if needed) When paying a past-due amount, the payment method used becomes the new payment method for all subscriptions that used the declined card. Verify that this is acceptable for the organization and adjust if necessary in the billing settings after payment succeeds.
    4. Wait for service restoration After the balance is paid successfully, service (including Outlook) typically resumes automatically. Have users close and reopen Outlook or sign out and sign back in if issues persist.

If payment continues to fail or there are multiple past-due subscriptions using the same card, ensure the full outstanding balance is paid, as all such subscriptions may need to be brought current at once.
