Unable to close a personal account

I wish to close a personal Hotmail account but there is apparently a work email attached to it and so must remove that first.

I have not worked since 2012 and do not know what it is.

The one I thought it could be returns "no such domain known", or something like that.

I went onto chat and they could not help me, suggesting instead I contact Business Support.

I've tried phoning the published number but that redirects me to a dedicated online section for any option I choose.

Neither does the issue seem to fit into any parent category when trying to post this message.

I do not wish to get support for any product so am presently stuck.

Any advice or direction will be gratefully received.

TIA

    Hello Emma

    a) the message is only during the Hotmail account closure process;

    b) I am able to login to the hotmail account, with no issue.

    Best

    Eddie

    Welcome Eddie Stone,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you want to close a personal Hotmail account but are blocked because a work or school account appears to be linked, and you no longer know what that account is.

To help resolve this as quickly as possible, could you please confirm the following details:

    • When signing in at account.microsoft.com, do you see any message explicitly mentioning a work or school account, or is it only shown during the account closure process?
    • Are you still able to sign in successfully to the personal Hotmail account itself?

I look forward to your reply so we can continue working together to address the issue.
