“The issue appeared the moment I tried to lower brightness via the quick‑action slider just before the PC shut down for the update; after KB5085516 completed, the slider disappeared and is now greyed out in Settings > System > Display, even though the screen itself works normally

    I recommend reporting the issue via Feedback Hub app to notify Microsoft.

    Please try to uninstall the KB5085516 update.

    If this fixes the issue, please try to temporarily pause updates to prevent it from reinstalling.

    Open Settings > Windows Update > Pause updates > Pause for 1 week
