    Hi Ali Chughtai,

I understand how frustrating it is when your laptop shows that sound is playing but you can’t hear anything at all. Have you already tried the Q&A Assist suggestions? In addition, please try this specific check:

1, Check if the internal speakers are detected correctly

    1. Press Win + R, type “mmsys.cpl”, and press Enter.
    2. On the “Playback” tab, look for “Speakers / Headphones” or similar.
    3. If Speakers appear:
      • Right‑click them > “Set as Default Device”
      • Then right‑click again > “Test”
    4. If Speakers do NOT appear at all:
      • Right‑click in the empty area > enable “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices”
      • If speakers appear disabled > Enable them

2, Test with wired headphones or earbuds

    • Plug in wired headphones (not Bluetooth).
    • Play audio again.

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

Please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

    2

Click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

Follow these steps in order on the Windows laptop.

    1. Confirm the correct output device
      1. Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      2. Select the arrow to the right of the volume slider.
      3. In Select a sound output, choose the laptop’s built‑in Speakers (not a monitor, HDMI, or Bluetooth device).
    2. Set the speakers as default in Settings
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Output, click the device that corresponds to the laptop speakers.
      3. Selecting it sets it as the default output device.
    3. Turn off audio enhancements (Windows 10)
      1. In the taskbar search box, type control panel and open it.
      2. Select Hardware and Sound > Sound.
      3. On the Playback tab, right‑click the Default Device (laptop speakers) > Properties.
      4. On the Enhancements tab, check Disable all enhancements or Disable all sound effects (whichever appears), then select OK.
      5. If there are other default‑capable devices listed, repeat this for each and test audio again.
    4. Check Windows Audio services
      1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter.
      2. Find Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
      3. For each one: right‑click > Restart.
      4. Make sure Startup type is set to Automatic.
    5. Reinstall the audio driver
      1. Press Win + X > Device Manager.
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. Right‑click the laptop’s audio device (for example, Realtek Audio, Realtek High Definition Audio, or similar) > Uninstall device.
      4. If available, check Delete the driver software for this device / Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
      5. Select Uninstall.
      6. Restart the laptop (this should reinstall a driver automatically).
    6. Update the audio driver
      1. Open Device Manager again.
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. Right‑click the audio device > Update driver.
      4. Select Search automatically for drivers (or Search automatically for updated driver software on Windows 10) and complete the wizard.
      5. If no newer driver is found, download the latest audio driver from the laptop manufacturer’s support site for the exact model and install it, then restart.
    7. Try the generic Windows audio driver
      1. In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      2. Right‑click the audio device > Update driver.
      3. Select Browse my computer for drivers.
      4. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      5. Choose the generic High Definition Audio driver shown and finish the wizard, then test sound.
    8. Install all Windows Updates
      1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update.
      2. Select Check for updates.
      3. Install all available updates (including optional driver updates), then restart and test audio.

If after all of these steps the troubleshooter still shows sound is playing but nothing is heard from the speakers, test with headphones. If headphones work but speakers do not, the laptop’s internal speakers may have a hardware fault and require repair.
