How to disable "Keep your place when switching folders" in new Outlook for Windows?

Hi,

March 2026's new Outlook for Windows update brought the following "feature":

Keep your place when switching folders

Message selection and scroll position are now preserved when changing folders, so returning to a folder doesn’t jump you back to the top of the list.

Ref: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-s-new-in-new-outlook-for-windows-c4c33813-1e9a-4304-8499-90fe7f164bd1#:~:text=Keep%20your%20place,of%20the%20list.

How can I disable this feature?

Thanks in advance!

Fabio

Add option to disable persistent message selection when switching folders

    Hi @Fabio,

At the moment, there is no built‑in option or setting to disable the “Keep your place when switching folders” behavior in the new Outlook for Windows since this function now applies automatically to all users of the new Outlook.

If you still want to disable this function, my recommendation is to switch back to Classic Outlook if this behavior negatively impacts your workflow, as Classic Outlook does not include this change and still resets the folder view as before.

On the other hand, you can submit feedback via this portal: Outlook · Community as this is how such changes are evaluated for optional controls in future releases.

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend/account issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations.

I hope you find this information helpful. If anything is unclear, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
