    Dear @Admin Tohtonku,

At this time, I have tested and see that my files work normally on desktop app. Since the files open correctly in the SharePoint web app but appear as a blank white screen in desktop apps, this usually points to a local sync or authentication issue, rather than a problem with the files themselves.

Therefore, to help me narrow this down, could you please confirm the following details?

    • How are the files being opened in the desktop app? From File Explorer (synced via OneDrive), From a OneDrive “Add shortcut to OneDrive” folder, Or by using "Open in desktop app" directly from SharePoint Online
    • Does the issue occur on multiple devices or only one device? If possible, please confirm whether the same behavior happens on a different computer using the same account.
    • Which desktop apps are affected? Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or all Office desktop apps?
    • Does the issue happen only with shared files, or also with files you own in SharePoint/OneDrive?
    • Are you able to open the same file successfully in the desktop app when selecting “Open in desktop app” from the SharePoint web interface?
    • Are you signed into the Office desktop apps using the same account that you use to access SharePoint Online in the browser?
    • Are these devices managed by your organization, or are they personal/unmanaged devices?
    • When did this issue start happening? Was there any recent change, such as a Windows update, Office update, password change, or device sign‑in change?
    • Are other users in your organization experiencing the same issue, or is it limited to a specific group?

In the meantime, here are some steps I recommend you try:

    Step 1: Reset OneDrive

Fully exit OneDrive > Press Windows + R and run: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset > Reopen OneDrive and allow it to fully resync. For more information, please refer to Reset OneDrive

Step 2: Sign out and back into Office desktop apps

Open any Office app (Word/Excel) > File > Account > Sign out of all accounts, close all Office apps, then reopen and sign in again using the same account that works in SharePoint Online.

    Step 3: Repair Office apps

I recommend you try repairing the Office desktop apps, as this can help resolve issues where files open as a blank or white screen. When you're done, you might need to restart your computer. For more information, please refer to Repair an Office application

Right-click the Start button (lower-left corner) > select "Installed apps" on the pop-up menu > Installed apps > Select the Microsoft 365 or Office product you want to repair, click the ellipses, and select Modify > Start with Quick Repair > If the issue persists, repeat the steps and select Online Repair.

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools, and I appreciate your understanding of these limits.

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.

The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.

The behavior described matches a known issue where Office files opened from SharePoint show a blank/white document in the desktop apps, while they still open correctly in the browser.

    Use these checks and fixes:

    1. Confirm the files themselves are not corrupt
    2. Check for unsupported or mismatched file formats
      • Make sure the file type matches the app (for example, Excel workbooks as .xlsx, Word documents as .docx).
      • Older desktop Office versions may not fully support newer file formats or features. Ensure users have a compatible and up-to-date Microsoft 365 desktop version.
    3. Try repairing the Office desktop apps
      • Run an Office repair on an affected machine to fix client-side issues that can cause blank documents when opening from SharePoint.
      • See: Repair an Office application.
    4. Clear the Office document cache
      • Corrupted cache can cause files from SharePoint/OneDrive to open incorrectly or appear blank in desktop apps.
      • Follow: Delete your Office Document Cache, then try opening the files again from SharePoint.
    5. Verify SharePoint library settings (open in browser vs client)
      • If files always open in the browser but fail in the client, check the library’s “Opening Documents in the Browser” setting:
        • Go to the affected library → Gear icon → Library SettingsAdvanced settingsOpening Documents in the Browser.
      • Test both “Open in the client application” and “Open in the browser” to see which path fails.
    6. Check for file corruption specifically in SharePoint
      • If files used to open correctly from SharePoint and now open blank, SharePoint may be encountering corruption when serving the file.
      • Download the file and use the repair steps above.
      • Ensure all users save and close files properly and keep consistent formats when sharing (for example, do not open as .xls and save as a different type unintentionally).

If the files open correctly when downloaded locally but still show blank only when opened directly from SharePoint in desktop apps (for all users), collect details (tenant, affected sites/libraries, sample files, client versions) and open a support ticket with Microsoft, as this can indicate a service-side or authentication-related issue.
