Hello,

I hope that you are doing well!

I didn't use my developer account for a months, unfortunately, all my admin rights and permission were deleted, I can't use the account for training on these platforms: Azure, Intune admin center, 365 admin center, Entra admin center..

Can you please allow me to use my account again as administration with all permission specially Intune permission to keep training and create policies? ( I will give you my account in private)

Have a nice day!

Best Regards.

    Dear @Mouhamed Hmidet,

Good day, and thank you for the detailed explanation of your situation.

I understand that you have not used your Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandbox (free E5 developer tenant) for several months and have now lost administrative permissions. As a result, you can no longer access the Microsoft 365 admin center, Entra admin center (Azure AD), Intune admin center, or Azure for training and policy creation.

I’d like to clarify upfront that this forum is a community‑driven platform. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could access your tenant or backend systems to resolve this directly. However, our role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that can be applied by users. I cannot directly restore admin rights, grant Global Admin permissions, or "re-activate" your account on your behalf. This is due to security and privacy policies. No one here can accept your account details privately or make changes to your tenant.

From my research, this situation is quite common with Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandboxes after extended inactivity:

Developer sandboxes are intended for active development (for example, using APIs, deploying solutions, creating apps or policies).

If there is no meaningful activity for an extended period, the sandbox subscription may expire or enter a restricted state.

    After expiration:

    • Limited access may remain briefly (around 30 days).
    • Further restrictions follow.
    • The tenant and its data may be permanently deleted after approximately 60 days.

First, please check the Developer Program Dashboard

    Go to: https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/dev-program

Sign in with the personal/work Microsoft account you originally used to join the program (not the sandbox ******@yourtenant.onmicrosoft.com account).

See if your sandbox still shows as Active/Expired/Suspended.

If the subscription shows as expired due to inactivity, Microsoft typically does not provide a manual way to reset permissions. The standard approach is to:

    • Wait for the tenant deletion period to complete, then
    • Create a new developer sandbox through the dashboard.

If the dashboard still shows the subscription as Active, look for options such as Set up subscription or Renew, which may re‑provision administrative roles.

If you still have no access, infortunately, in cases involving sole‑admin lockout, lost permissions, or MFA issues on a developer tenant, recovery cannot be handled through community support. These are security‑critical scenarios that require direct verification by Microsoft’s Data Protection team.

The best way to do this for a business account is by phone. You can follow this article to check global customer support phone number from your region.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

In some countries, it is an automated conversation like: First, when you call the hotline, it will be asked as follows:

IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?

    You: Account recovery.

IVR: What kind of product do you use?

    You: Office 365 for business.

IVR confirmation: education or company account?

    You: For companies

    IVR: Are you an administrator?

    You: Yes.

IVR: Do you have the other administrator in your organization?

    You: No.

IVR: Do you need a... Service request?

    You: Yes

Alternative, you can create a new tenant account and submit your request from there.

To set up a new tenant, please follow these steps:

    1. Visit Compare Office 365 Enterprise plans and pricing, choose any plan and click try for free to start a free trial.
    2. Choose any plan (e.g., Business Basic, Standard, or Premium) and click "Try for free" to start a free trial.
    3. Follow the guided setup process to create your new trial account.
    4. Once the new tenant is created, you should be able to access its support portal and submit your ticket.
    5. Log in to the Microsoft 365 admin center (admin.microsoft.com).
    6. Navigate to Show all > Support > New service request
    7. In the request, explain your situation in detail.

The support team will guide you through the identity verification process to help you regain access to your account.

    Important notes:

    • This new trial tenant does not grant you access to data or settings of your original locked tenant. It only serves as a temporary way to contact Microsoft support.
    • Be prepared for Microsoft to want to verify your identity and administrator privileges for the old tenant.
    • The processing time may be longer because you are contacting support from another tenant.
    • Remember to cancel the trial subscription as soon as your original account is restored to avoid unwanted charges. You can do this in the Microsoft 365 admin center under Billing > Your products.

I know this is not the outcome you were hoping for, and it’s understandably frustrating when recovery options are limited. Please know that as a forum moderator, directing you to the correct, specialized support is the most effective help I can provide from my position. I truly hope you get your issue resolved swiftly. If you need help understanding any of the steps above, feel free to reply in the comment. Wishing you all the best.

Permissions for a Microsoft 365 developer tenant or any Microsoft Entra ID tenant can only be changed by an account that already has the necessary admin role; they cannot be restored or elevated from outside the tenant.

To regain admin capabilities on the tenant that backs the developer account, one of the following must happen:

    1. Another existing administrator (for example, a Global Administrator, or an admin with the relevant Intune/Microsoft Entra/Microsoft 365 admin roles) must sign in to the tenant and reassign the required roles to the user account.
    2. If no one in the tenant has sufficient rights anymore, the tenant owner or organization’s Microsoft Entra administrator must follow the standard Microsoft Entra recovery/escalation paths to restore an admin and then reassign roles. End users cannot self‑elevate.

If the tenant is part of an organization, contact the organization’s Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Entra administrator and request that they:

    • Assign a directory role such as Global Administrator or the specific service admin roles needed (e.g., Intune Administrator) to the account.
    • Verify that the account still exists in the tenant and has not been removed or converted to a limited role.

If the tenant is a personal developer sandbox and all admin rights were removed, only Microsoft support can help determine whether the tenant can be recovered; there is no self‑service way to grant admin rights back from within the account itself.
