Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear @Doug Barrow,
I hope you’re having a good day.
Thank you for your message. After taking a closer look at your case, I was able to find some additional context from one of your earlier questions, which helps clarify what’s happening.
Based on the error messages you described in Outlook and on the “My Account” page, this appears to be a billing‑related subscription issue, not a problem with the Office apps themselves. When a Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription is no longer active due to a billing issue, Microsoft automatically removes the license assignment from users. This is why you’re seeing the message that no Office license is currently assigned, even though you previously had one.
In this situation, it’s important to note that only a Global admin or Billing admin, and only through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, can renew a business subscription or update the payment method. Actions taken from Outlook or from the “My Account” (user) portal don’t have the permissions needed to reactivate or renew a Microsoft 365 Business subscription.
As a first step, please try signing in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center at https://admin.microsoft.com and check whether the account you’re using is an admin account. If you were the original purchaser of the subscription, Microsoft typically created an initial admin account for you, often in the format ******@yourtenant.onmicrosoft.com. If you’re not sure which account is the admin, you may want to review any original Microsoft 365 welcome or purchase emails, as they often indicate the admin sign‑in address.
If you’re able to access the Admin Center with an admin account and the subscription is still within the allowed renewal period, you should be able to renew the subscription or update the payment method directly from there.
If you’re unable to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center at all, or if the subscription status shows as canceled, then self‑service reactivation is no longer possible. In cases where a subscription has been canceled, Microsoft doesn’t restore the old subscription. User data is typically retained for a limited period, but the subscription itself can’t be reactivated online. At that point, the available options are to contact Microsoft Billing Support for assistance or to purchase a new Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription and then reassign licenses to your users.
Please try to find the related hotline number to call the frontline let them raise a ticket for you: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support
(Depending on your country or region, when you call the support number, you may hear an introduction of about 30 seconds such as "you can visit the link...". You can ignore this introduction and wait until you are presented with the options. Then press "1" as a business email user, and again "1" for technical help)
If your organization’s Office 365 Business subscription was purchased through a partner or reseller, and you’re unable to open a service request directly, you may also contact the reseller’s support provider and ask them to open a support request on your behalf.
I hope this explanation helps clarify why you’re seeing these messages and what the correct next steps are. Please let me know if you need help identifying the admin account or understanding what you see in the Admin Center, and I’ll be glad to assist further.
Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.
Warm regards,
