    Hi chrissie gardiner,

Please navigate to your laptop support page to check if they publish an updated version of the audio drivers that is compatible with latest Windows update.

If they don't, please try uninstalling recent updates following this guide: How to uninstall a Windows Update, then pause Windows Update and wait for further information.

I hope that above information is helpful to you.

Let's check some additional information to help resolve the issue:

    1. What is the make and model of your device?

In the search bar, type MSINFO32 and hit Enter.

Please share a screenshot of that window.

    1. Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.

Click View > Show Hidden devices

Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.

Take a screenshot and share it here.

In the meantime, try the following:

Use an older driver or uninstalling then reinstalling the driver:

    1. Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
    3. Right-click on your audio driver(Realtek HD Audio, AMD High Definition Audio, etc.)and choose Update driver.
    4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
    5. Click "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer."
    6. Select an older driver from the list and click 'Next.'
    7. Follow the onscreen instructions.
    8. if the problem continues, repeat 1-3 and hit uninstall device instead.
    9. Restart your computer(not shutdown) then check if the issue is resolved.

    Enable Windows Audio:

Press the Windows key + R, type services.msc and press Enter.

Scroll through the list and double-click "Windows Audio."

Click the "Start" or 'Restart' button to enable Windows Audio.

Double Click Windows audio, Choose Automatic from the Startup type, click Apply then Ok.

Follow these steps in order on the Windows 11 laptop.

    1. Run the built-in audio troubleshooter
      • Select Start.
      • Type Get Help and open it.
      • Use Troubleshoot audio issues (or select the audio troubleshooter link if shown) and let it run. It will try to detect and fix missing devices or drivers.
    2. Check the output device selection
      • Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      • Select the arrow to the right of the volume slider (Select a sound output).
      • If any device is listed (speakers/headphones/monitor), select the correct one.
      • If nothing is listed or it still says No audio device is installed, continue.
    3. Verify Windows sees an audio device
      • Right-click the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      • Choose Sound settings.
      • Under Output, check if any device appears.
      • If no device appears, the driver is likely missing or not working and needs to be reinstalled.
    4. Reinstall or update the audio driver
      • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • If an audio device is listed (for example, Realtek, Intel Smart Sound, High Definition Audio):
        1. Right-click it and select Uninstall device.
        2. Confirm and restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall a working driver automatically.
      • If the troubleshooter or Device Manager reports a driver problem, or if there is a yellow warning icon, download the latest audio driver from the laptop manufacturer’s support site for the exact model and install it, then restart.
    5. If the problem started immediately after a Windows Update
      • Try rolling back the audio driver:
        1. Open Device Manager.
        2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
        3. Right-click the sound card/audio device and select Properties.
        4. Go to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver.
        5. Follow the prompts and restart.
      • If rolling back is not available or does not help, use System Restore to restore the PC to a point before the update, as described in Recovery options in Windows.
    6. Confirm Windows is fully updated and rebooted
      • Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • Install all available updates.
      • Then select Start > Power and choose Update and restart if shown.
    7. If Windows shows an output device but still no sound
      • In Settings > System > Sound, under Output, select the correct device.
      • If using USB or HDMI, make sure the correct speakers/headphones are selected and not a silent monitor.

If, after reinstalling/rolling back the driver and checking output devices, Windows still reports No audio device is installed, the next step is to obtain the correct audio driver directly from the laptop manufacturer’s support page for that specific model and install it manually.
