I am getting no notification sound when I open my Teams app.

In Microsoft Teams, please go to Settings > Notifications and activity, and under the Sound section, check whether “Play sounds with notifications” is turned on. If it’s not enabled, please turn it on and see if the notification sound starts working.

If that option is already enabled and the issue persists, could you please let me know:

• Are you using a personal account (such as Hotmail.com, Outlook.com, or Gmail.com), or a work or school account provided by your organization? (In some cases, organization policies can control or disable notification sounds.)
• Which operating system are you using Microsoft Teams on? Windows or macOS?
• Additionally, has this issue started recently, or has it been happening consistently for a longer time?

Use the following checks to restore notification sounds in Microsoft Teams.

1. Verify Teams notification sound settings
   1. In Teams desktop, select Settings and more (… in the top right) > Settings.
   2. Go to Notifications and activity.
   3. Under Sound, make sure sound options are turned on and, if available, select the desired notification sounds.
   4. If using macOS and you want the Teams sound instead of the system sound, enable Use Teams sound for notifications instead of the macOS alert sound.
2. Check OS notification permissions for Teams (desktop, macOS)
   1. Open macOS System Settings.
   2. Go to Notifications and search for Microsoft Teams.
   3. Turn on Play sound for notification.
   4. If needed, adjust Alert volume under Sound in System Settings.
3. Check device volume/output (desktop, macOS)
   1. Open macOS System Settings > Sound.
   2. Under Play sound effects through, select the correct output device (speakers/headset).
   3. Under Output, select the preferred device and increase Output volume; ensure Mute is not checked.
4. Test a Teams notification
   1. In Teams, go to Settings and more > Settings > Notifications and activity.
   2. Under Display, select Test notification.
   3. If no sound plays, re-check OS notification and sound settings as above.
5. If using Teams on mobile (iOS/Android)
   1. In the Teams mobile app, tap the profile picture (top left) > Notifications.
   2. If notifications are off, tap Open settings.
   3. In the device Settings app, go to Notifications > Teams and turn on Allow notifications.
   4. Ensure sound is enabled in the Teams notification style and that the device volume is turned up.
   5. If Teams does not appear in iOS Settings, uninstall and reinstall the Teams app.
6. If Focus/Do Not Disturb is blocking alerts (macOS)
   1. Open macOS System Settings > Focus.
   2. Select the active Focus scenario.
   3. Under Allowed Apps, add Teams if notifications should come through during Focus.
   4. Or turn off the Focus schedule if all notifications should be allowed.

After these steps, trigger a new message or use Test notification to confirm that sound plays.
