I need to access my camera when I use the Tutor Cruncher page, but it won't let me. I have made sure the camera is turned on in Windows, but it still won't come up on Tutor Cruncher, but the microphone will.

    Hi Sharyn Taylor

I can understand how frustrating that is, especially when the microphone is working but the camera is not on TutorCruncher. Have you got the chance to check the AI answer yet? That reply typically include the most relevant checks for this scenario.

To narrow this down a bit, could you let me know:

    • Does the camera work normally in the Windows Camera app?
    • Does this happen only on TutorCruncher, or also on other websites that use the camera in Edge?
    • When you open TutorCruncher, do you see any message such as camera blocked, device not found, or is the camera area just blank/black?
    • Are you using the built-in camera or an external webcam?

In the meantime, please try the steps below:

    1. Try TutorCruncher in an InPrivate window
    • Open Microsoft Edge
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Open TutorCruncher in the InPrivate window
    • Sign in and test the camera again
    1. Turn off Edge extensions temporarily
    • In Edge, select Settings and more (...) > Extensions
    • Turn off all extensions temporarily
    • Close and reopen Edge
    • Go back to TutorCruncher and test again
    1. Clear the site data for TutorCruncher in Edge
    • Open Edge > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data > See all cookies and site data
    • Search for TutorCruncher
    • Remove the related site data
    • Close Edge completely, reopen it, and try again

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

I hope these steps help you get your camera working again in TutorCruncher as soon as possible. Wishing you a smooth and uninterrupted experience moving forward.

Tutor Cruncher is a website, so treat it as a desktop app using the browser camera permission plus Windows camera privacy.

Follow these steps on Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge:

    1. Confirm Windows camera privacy settings
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
      2. Under Allow access to the camera on this device, select Change and turn Camera access for this device On.
      3. Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is On.
      4. Scroll down and turn Allow desktop apps to access your camera On. Edge and other browsers need this.
    2. Close other apps that may be using the camera
      1. Right‑click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
      2. End any apps that might be using the camera (Teams, Zoom, other browsers, Camera app, etc.).
      3. Close and reopen Edge, then try Tutor Cruncher again.
    3. Test the camera in the Windows Camera app
      1. Open Start > Camera.
      2. If asked, allow access to the camera.
      3. If the preview works here but not on Tutor Cruncher, the issue is specific to Edge/that site.
    4. Check Edge site permissions for Tutor Cruncher
      1. Open Tutor Cruncher in Edge.
      2. Click the lock icon in the address bar.
      3. Ensure Camera is set to Allow (or Ask and then choose Allow when prompted).
      4. If it was blocked previously, change to Allow and refresh the page.
    5. Update Windows and restart
      1. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. Install any updates (including optional camera updates), restart the PC, then test again in Tutor Cruncher.
    6. Check antivirus or security software Some antivirus or firewall tools can block camera access in browsers. Temporarily disable camera/webcam protection in that software and test Tutor Cruncher. Re‑enable protection after testing.

If the camera does not work in the Camera app or any other app, troubleshoot the camera itself first using the same privacy steps and the built‑in camera troubleshooter.
