Press and hold Power button for 10–15 seconds → device shuts down.

Press Power to start it again.

When the Windows logo appears, hold Power again to force shutdown.

    Repeat this 3 times.

On the 4th boot, Windows should load Windows Recovery Environment with Preparing Automatic Repair.

    Then go to:

Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Repair.

Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Uninstall Updates → Uninstall Latest Quality Update

Go back to Advanced Options → Command Prompt and run these commands one by one:

    bootrec /fixmbr

    bootrec /fixboot

    bootrec /scanos

    bootrec /rebuildbcd

To access Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on a Surface Laptop Studio 2 that no longer boots past the Windows logo, use the automatic repair path and then the WinRE menu.

    1. Force Windows into Automatic Repair / WinRE
      1. Make sure the device is powered off.
      2. Turn it on and wait until the Windows (or Surface/Microsoft) logo appears.
      3. As soon as the logo appears, press and hold the power button until the device shuts down.
      4. Turn it on again and repeat step 3 (power off at the logo) a second time.
      5. Turn it on a third time and let it continue to boot. After two interrupted boots, Windows should display Automatic Repair and then the Windows Recovery Environment.
      6. On the Automatic Repair screen, select Advanced options to reach the main WinRE menu.
    2. Use WinRE to repair startup Once in WinRE, you can try the following, in order:
      • Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair (if available) to automatically fix boot issues caused by the interrupted update.
      • If Startup Repair does not help and the device shows a Recovery/BCD error, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt, then run the boot repair commands:
        • bootrec /scanos
        • bootrec /rebuildbcd
        • bootrec /fixmbr
        • bootrec /fixboot
    3. If Windows starts afterward
    4. If Windows still does not start
      • Follow the remaining recovery steps in the Surface recovery guidance (for example, using a USB recovery drive) as indicated after Solution 2 in the Surface article.
