Teams as Knowledge in Copilot Studio

·        I am trying to create an Agent that uses a specific Teams group chat as knowledge.

·        In Copilot Studio online, there isn’t an option for me to add Teams to the knowledge section

·        In the desktop Copilot, I can add Teams to the knowledge but not specific chats it is just the whole Teams.

·        I’ve watched some Youtube videos where a guy has been able to add specific group chats

·        I also tried to ask Copilot chat how to add Teams group chats in Copilot Studio and it said I need an extra license but then it’s been hard to figure out

I have the Copilot for M365 addon. Are you able to advise whether I should be able to get Teams as knowledge in Copilot studio or if I need an extra license in the studio?

And, is there a way to just add specific groups/chats?

Microsoft Teams chat is not currently supported as a direct knowledge base in Copilot Studio agents.

    Here’s the short explanation:

    • Copilot Studio agents can use supported knowledge sources such as SharePoint, Dataverse, files, etc.
    • Teams group chats or 1:1 chats are not natively available in the Studio “Knowledge” picker.
    • In the Microsoft 365 Copilot desktop experience, Teams context can be used because Copilot automatically understands your accessible Teams data — but that capability is not exposed as a configurable knowledge source in Copilot Studio agents.

Workarounds: To use Teams chat content in a Copilot agent, you would need to extract it into a supported store (e.g., SharePoint/Dataverse) or build a custom connector that pulls chat data via Microsoft Graph.

To achieve your requirements, we recommend you give your feedback in Microsoft 365 Copilot app Feedback Portal. Feature requests are reviewed by the engineering team and may be prioritized based on various factors, including the number of requests received.

    Thanks,

To use specific Teams group chats as knowledge sources in Copilot Studio, you need to ensure that your agent is configured correctly. While you mentioned that you have the Copilot for M365 add-on, it is important to note that Teams knowledge is only available to users with this add-on license. However, you cannot scope to individual meetings or specific group chats directly in Copilot Studio; instead, you can choose to include all Teams chats and meetings that you have access to.

If you want to add specific group chats, you can do this by selecting the appropriate chats in the Knowledge section of the agent configuration. In the desktop version of Copilot, you may have more flexibility in adding Teams knowledge, but it seems that the limitation you are facing in the online version is a known aspect of the current setup.

If you are still having trouble, it may be beneficial to check if there are any updates or changes in the licensing requirements or capabilities for Copilot Studio, as these can evolve over time. Additionally, make sure you are using version 1.3 or later of the declarative agent manifest schema, as this is required to add Teams messages knowledge sources effectively.
