How to reset my Surface Pro 8 without BitLocker key

I have a surface pro 8 and have not used it in several years, getting ready for a cruise and I thought I would charge it up so we can use it to watch movies, listen to Spotify, etc. During the update process it brought me to a screen asking for my Bitlocker key, and I cannot get past this screen. I have asked to have the system reset, but it won't even let me do that. I'm so frustrated right now. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately, you cannot bypass BitLocker without the recovery key.

In the absence of the BitLocker recovery key, a clean Windows installation becomes the only viable option, which will result in the deletion of all stored data.

To reset your Surface Pro 8 without the BitLocker key, you can follow these steps:

    1. Obtain the BitLocker Recovery Key: If you have access to your Microsoft account, you can retrieve the BitLocker recovery key from your account at Microsoft.com. If BitLocker is managed by an organization, contact your administrator for assistance.
    2. Create a USB Recovery Drive: If you cannot retrieve the BitLocker key, you will need to create a USB recovery drive using another computer. You can download the Surface recovery image from the Surface Recovery Image Download page.
    3. Boot from USB Recovery Drive: Insert the USB recovery drive into your Surface Pro 8, shut it down, and then press and hold the Volume-down button while pressing the Power button. Continue holding the Volume-down button until you see the Surface logo and spinning dots.
    4. Access Command Prompt: Once booted from the USB drive, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
    5. Unlock the Drive: In the Command Prompt, you can attempt to unlock the drive using the BitLocker recovery password if you have it. If not, you may need to proceed with a complete reset, which will erase all data on the device.
    6. Reset the Device: If you want to reset the device, follow the instructions for resetting your Surface using the USB recovery drive. This will restore your Surface to its original state but will erase all data.

Please note that without the BitLocker key, you may lose access to any data stored on the device, as resetting will erase everything.
