From whomever you purchase, make sure they provide you an actual product key, not just an activation key. When you install the software, Office 2021 should appear listed in your Microsoft account.

If a site states something like:

"This licensing type will be connected with your actual device, NOT your Microsoft account."

Then I would not purchase the software.

If they try to sell you software without a product key, or the software will not show up in your account, I'd be suspect you may be getting an illegal copy or a wrong license.

Stay away from LTSC software, or if the software can be installed on more than one device. Very low prices can be an indicator the software is illegal. If they are selling Microsoft products, they should be a Microsoft Partner. Stay away from vendors whose address is in a country where hackers are known to be operating (e.g. Nigeria).

See what their refund policy is if the software doesn't install or the license is wrong.

I ended up reloading Microsoft Office 21 as I had a licence for that and knew it would work. General opinion seems to be that Office 24 doesn't have a working version of Publisher with it.

I think this is a backwards step. Having used both Word and Publisher, for table cards and presentation leaflets Publisher is far better.

As far as I know, no version of Office 2024 includes Publisher. Microsoft has removed Publisher because the program will be discontinued next year.

Also, keep in mind that Office Professional Plus 2024 is a volume license product, intended for corporations, not for personal use.

To get Publisher, you need to purchase Office 2021 Professional, and you have to purchase it from a third-party seller (because it is not sold by Microsoft anymore). Be very careful so that you get a valid license.

Which 3rd party seller can be used to purchase Microsoft Office Professional 2021? I’ve read that some sites can’t be trusted.

    Hi Aubrey Oldham,

Thanks for sharing your concern on Microsoft Q&A.

Regarding the Publisher question, I would like to confirm that Microsoft Publisher is included in the Office 2024 Professional Plus suite, so if you have that edition installed, Publisher should be available as part of your package.

Here are a few quick checks you can do:

    • Check your Start Menu: Look for “Publisher” in the list of installed apps.
    • Verify in Office Apps: Open any Office app (like Word), go to File → Account → About Office to confirm your edition.
    • Reinstall or Modify: If Publisher isn’t showing, you may need to run the Office installer and select Publisher under “Add or Remove Features.”

Please note: Publisher will be retired in October, 2026. Microsoft will continue to maintain Publisher’s availability, accessibility, and security through retirement.

In case you need more information, kindly let me know so I could support you further.

    Warm regards,
